You might be asking yourself why I am saying
that confidence is an illusion, and you would be right
to do so. So many dating books talk about how important
it is to be confident when approaching women.
But is that really the answer?
Let me ask you something, when you call up your
best friend and ask him or her if she wants to go to
the movies tonight... do you have to get your
confidence level up before you call?
Let's say you call up your friend Mark, and ask
him to go out to the movies with you tonight, and he
says, "Nah, I want to stay home tonight and watch TV."
Do you feel rejected and walk away from the
phone with your head down? Of course not, in fact you
probably give him a hard time about it.
You might joke with him, and call him a couch
potato. You might start to tell him how great the movie
is that you want to go see. Hell, you might even just
offer to pay for his ticket.
My point is, you don't worry about rejection.
It's not a personal failure if Mark says no... in fact,
you know that because this movie is going to be so
good... that it's actually his loss.
Here's the thing that most people don't
realize. Confidence is the natural result of not having
any of those fears that get in your way. People who you
think are confident... really are not. They are just
busy doing what they do, and NOT getting in their own
way.
Are you confident that you can do your job
well, no matter what your job is? Do you have to even
think about it? Probably not.
You see, confidence is not necessary when you
have skill and experience. There's many ways that you
can get skill and experience, and the worst way is to
do it by trial and error.
The smartest way to gain skill and experience
is to learn from people who have already done what you
